As a profession we have made great progress and achieved excellence in delivering a world class veterinary service of which we can all be genuinely proud.
However, where ever-increasing demands for greater professional competencies and rising client expectations have become a norm, the corporate interests are taking hold, and the modern day life has become much more challenging, the veterinary work place in general has changed little and continues to cling on to unsustainable traditions, leading the veterinary practices to become a common place for anxiety, stress and poor reward. This is taking a heavy toll on too many members of the profession as indicated by the incredibly high level of mental health problems and suicides in our profession.
The existing organisations in the profession, though serving well in their own right, are incapable of offering the support vets and nurses need as personnel and as professionals, individually or collectively as members of the profession.
In order to change this situation and to ensure a better future for veterinary surgeons and nurses, a campaign is now under way, which is gaining strength by the day.
Vets4BVU has been setup to coordinate and facilitate the activities of vets and nurses who wish to bring about this change through the proposed new organisation for vets and nurses – The British Veterinary Union (BVU). The Vets4BVU is intended to serve as a fore-runner organisation for BVU.
You too can become part of this campaign and help shape the future of our profession by registering with Vets4BVU on this website today.
